National Association of Catering Executives
On September 30, 2006 I had the honor of being invited to show my wares at a meeting of the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) in Washington, DC. It was a great opportunity to meet other folks in the wedding industry, and to let them know that my kind of art exists.
Among the people I met were Joanne DeLoache of Deloache Chocolate (www.delochoc.com), who had chocolate business cards!; Kathy Weil of MyFlorist (www.myflorist.com); Jack Hartzman and Monica Vidal of Washington Talent, Photo and Video (www.washingtontalent.com); Wais Maqsodi of eMisha, a wedding vendor clearinghouse (www.eMisha.com); and one of my favorite new people, Max Krupka of Washington Executive Photographic Services (mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org. I also had occasion to see again the very creative and enthusiastic Travis-Lee Moore, Event Specialist from Capital Rentals(www.capitalrentals.com), to whom I owe $2; Mitch Rotker of Smoothie Time, a specialized ice cream and smoothie caterer (www.smoothietime.com); and last but not least Daniela Fazoli, Catering Sales Manager at the Omni Shoreham (www.omnihotels.com) and the person who invited me to the NACE event.
I was thrilled to accept Daniela's invitation because it gave me an excuse to go back to the hotel where I met my husband two and a half years ago. We were taking the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (ethics exam for lawyers) in one of the maze of conference rooms. We had assigned seats Number 13 and 14. I took one look at his handsome profile and told him I'd be cheating off him on the ethics test. He said that was okay. Then he asked me out. And then he asked me to marry him. And now we live together with our cat, Serendipity. And we have a wedding quilt.
