DC Arts on Foot Art Market
On September 16, Fiber of Her Being had a booth at the DC Arts on Foot Art Market. Husband James, Mother Marcy and I staged Fiber's DC debut on this drizzly but happy Saturday. The Love Notes necklaces, blank books, and textile bowls were a great success, as were the free Hershey's Kisses that we put in one of the bowls as a demonstration of how they could be used. Alas, we took some of the fabric products home, but no chocolate.
Among lots of friendly strangers, we were happy to see the faces of Jane, Stuart, and Karen Yourish (representing Pippin the Cat and Eric the Husband), as well as Mark McGinnis, one of Washington's premier lawyer-cyclists. They dutifully bought stuff, as good friends do. Even Mark.
One great thing about participating in this kind of event is that it's a great chance to meet other local artists. I was very impressed by Jessica Lovelace, who paints amazing pet portraits (see www.jessicalovelacestudios.com and her work in the Stray Cat Cafe and Lost Dog Cafe in Arlington, Virginia), Deborah Conn, a writer and beautiful watercolorist (www.deborahconn.com), Moira McCauley, who makes very sophisticated and imaginative blank books -- for the purists who like books made out of paper products (www.bookishlady.com), and Caitlin Phillips, whose purses made out of real hard back book covers are just absolutely wonderful (www.rebound-designs.com).
At the end of the day we packed up, went home, and slept for 15 hours. But we're ready to do it again on October 7, when Alexandria will be putting on a similar art festival called Art on the Avenue on Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray. Come visit us there and stock up on Halloween decorations and Christmas gifts!
